Description
Fosroc Nitobond SBR Latex is a modified styrene-butadiene emulsion specially designed for use as a bonding aid and gauging liquid for cementitious systems. It is highly resistant to hydrolysis, making it highly effective for both internal and external applications.
Key Uses
-
Modifying and improving the bonding of floor toppings, renderings, and mortars.
-
Repairing worn, damaged, and spalled concrete.
-
Repairing large cracks in concrete and masonry.
-
Creating polymer-modified floor screeds.
-
Formulating waterproof plasters for masonry and slurries.
Advantages
-
Simple to Use: Single-component liquid, easily gauged as required.
-
High Adhesion: Provides an excellent bond to concrete, plaster, masonry, stonework, etc.
-
Improves Durability: Creates a weather-resistant mortar with improved impermeability to chlorides and other harmful agents.
-
Reduces Permeability: Acts as a waterproofing agent for screeds, plasters, and slurries.
-
Increases Strength: Enhances tensile and flexural properties, allowing for thinner applications.
-
Versatile: Fully compatible with all common hydraulic cements.
-
Cost-Effective: Economical usage rates provide high value.
Technical & Packaging Data
-
Packaging: Available in 1, 5, and 20-litre containers.
-
Coverage: Slurry Primer yields approximately 4 to 5 m² per litre (depending on substrate porosity).
-
Shelf Life: 12 months when kept in a dry store in unopened condition.
Typical Mix Designs
1. Patching, Repair Mortars, and Plasters for Masonry
-
Cement: 50 kg
-
Zone II Sand: 150 kg
-
Nitobond SBR Latex: 5 to 9 litres
-
Water Addition: 11 to 15 litres (adjust for consistency)
-
Recommended Thickness: 8 mm to 30 mm
2. Heavy-Duty Floor Screeds (Should be a semi-dry, cohesive consistency)
-
Cement: 50 kg
-
3-6mm Granite Chips: 75 kg
-
Zone II Sand: 75 kg
-
Nitobond SBR Latex: 5 to 9 litres
-
Water Addition: 8 to 12 litres
-
Recommended Thickness: 10 mm to 25 mm
3. Polymer-Modified Cement Grout (for Crack Injection)
-
Effectively modifies cement grout properties for crack injection.
-
Dosage: 3 litres of Nitobond SBR Latex per 50 kg bag of cement.
-
Apply using standard injection practices.
Application Instructions
1. Surface Preparation:
-
Cleaning: Substrates must be clean, sound, and free of dust, plaster, oil, paint, grease, corrosion deposits, or other deleterious substances.
-
Profiling: Remove laitance mechanically. Smooth substrates must be roughened (e.g., by scabbling, needle gun, or grit blasting) to provide a good mechanical key.
-
Steel Rebar: Corroded reinforcing steel should be fully exposed around its circumference and cleaned to a bright condition (emery cloth, grit, or sandblasting recommended) to remove all loose scale and corrosion.
2. Application & Additional Guidance:
-
Priming: All surfaces, including edges, must be primed.
-
Wet-on-Wet Application: All applications must be executed “wet on wet.” Do not allow the primer to dry before applying the mortar/screed.
-
Edge Preparation: Toe-in at edges wherever possible to avoid feather-edging.
-
Water Control: Keep water content to the absolute minimum necessary to achieve the desired consistency. If using wet sand, reduce the added water level accordingly. Always use clean, dry sand for consistent performance.
Health & Safety Precautions
-
Protective Gear: Always wear protective gloves and goggles during application.
-
Skin Contact: Avoid contact. If contact occurs, wash thoroughly with soap and water.
-
Eye Contact: Do not allow contact with eyes. If contamination occurs, flush thoroughly with clean water and seek medical advice immediately.
-
Ingestion: Do not swallow. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Seek immediate medical attention.
