Nitobond EP
High-Strength Epoxy Bonding Agent for Concrete
Nitobond EP is a premium, solvent-free epoxy bonding agent specially formulated to create a permanent, high-strength bond between new and existing concrete. It also acts as an effective primer for repair mortars applied to concrete substrates.
Engineered for demanding structural applications, Nitobond EP ensures superior adhesion, durability, and long-term performance in both internal and external environments.
Uses
-
Bonding fresh cementitious materials to hardened concrete surfaces
-
Horizontal and vertical applications where mortar or concrete is supported by formwork
-
Projects requiring extended “open” time for steel reinforcement placement
-
Roads, bridges, pavements, loading bays, and factory floors
-
Bonded and granolithic floor toppings
-
Repair systems requiring a substrate/repair barrier
-
Structures exposed to immersion, permanent wet, or damp conditions
Advantages
-
Exceptional Bond Strength – Exceeds the tensile strength of the host concrete
-
High Mechanical Performance – Excellent structural integrity
-
Versatile Application – Suitable for dry or SSD (Saturated Surface Dry) substrates
-
Solvent-Free Formula – Safe for enclosed environments
-
Extended Open Time – Ideal for complex installations requiring reinforcement fitting
Product Description
Nitobond EP is a two-component, solvent-free epoxy system containing selected pigments and fine fillers. It is supplied in pre-weighed packs for convenient on-site mixing.
-
Base Component: White
-
Hardener Component: Black
When properly mixed, the product forms a uniform grey colour, providing clear visual confirmation of thorough blending.
Application Instructions
Surface Preparation
-
Remove dust, loose material, plaster, oil, paint, grease, corrosion deposits, and algae.
-
Roughen the surface and eliminate laitance by light scrabbling or grit blasting to expose aggregate.
-
Remove oil and grease using steam cleaning, detergent scrubbing, or a suitable degreaser.
-
Verify substrate soundness with a pull-off test where necessary.
Mixing Procedure
-
Prepare all steel reinforcement and formwork before mixing begins.
-
Stir both base and hardener components separately.
-
Pour the entire hardener into the base container.
-
Mix thoroughly using a slow-speed heavy-duty drill with mixing paddle for 2 minutes until uniform grey colour is achieved.
-
Scrape down the sides and mix for an additional 2 minutes to ensure complete consistency.
Application Method
-
Apply immediately after mixing using brush or spray.
-
For spray application, use a heavy-duty airless spray machine (19–20 thou tip).
Concrete Placement:
Apply new concrete or screed onto the coated surface once Nitobond EP becomes tacky and within 90 minutes at 20°C.
-
If the surface becomes tack-free, apply a second coat the same day.
-
If delayed beyond the same day, mechanically remove the first coat before reapplication.
Barrier Application (Chloride Contaminated Concrete):
-
Prime prepared concrete with Nitobond EP.
-
Allow curing for 8–24 hours.
-
Ensure coating is imperforate and fill voids with suitable mortar.
-
Apply second coat and allow 30 minutes before applying repair material onto the tacky surface.
Coverage
-
4 – 5 m² per litre
Supply
Available in 1.5 litre and 6 litre two-component packs.
